Fabian Schar seriously impressed with what the Newcastle owners have done

The Newcastle United owners could have easily gone on a spending spree when they bought the club, but instead they have been clever in the transfer market.

That is the view of Toon defender Fabian Schar, who has praised the Newcastle owners for the way they have gone about their business since the change of ownership in October 2021.

After just a season and a half in charge, Amanda Staveley and co have overseen the Magpies’ return to the Champions League, while they also saw Eddie Howe guide the team to a Wembley final.

The club’s resurgence has been largely down to the decisions they have made, with the new manager and new recruits all having a major impact since their arrivals at St James’ Park.

The owners have been methodical in their approach, which has impressed Toon defender Fabian Schar.

Schar is currently away on international duty with Switzerland, and spoke to Blue Win about the Newcastle United owners.

“The new owners have invested very carefully and made clever transfers,” he said.

“There was no sign of a spending spree. Instead, some funds have been put into infrastructure. You did a really good job. The change of strategy was necessary.”

Easily could have gone differently

As Schar says, the owners have been very careful with the way they have operated in the transfer market. Given our newfound wealth, we easily could have brought in superstar names on mega wage packages, which would have ended in disaster.

But instead the Toon owners have brought in players who are fit for purpose, with a smattering of elite talent that has the potential to grow with the club.

There has also been investment off the pitch too, with the training ground getting a serious makeover. The final product was unveiled to fans earlier this week, and it is fair to say it looks absolutely excellent.

It is remarkable what can happen when every strand of the club is pulling in the same direction. That is exactly what has happened since the change of ownership, and it has resulted in a happy and harmonious place to play football.
