Newcastle might have something to play for when football returns if the FA get their way.
The season is currently on hold amid the global health pandemic, and football officials across the world are discussing plans of what to do when the game is allowed to return.
The debate is – what happens to the current season? Is it void? Do the current positions stand as final? Or do we complete the season at a later date?
The consensus seams to be to complete the season, and FA CEO Mark Bullingham believes the FA Cup must be completed as well as the leagues.
“From our point of view, the FA Cup is incredibly important,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.
“We are talking the priority being that, whenever football can be played again, to complete the domestic season, we are talking about both the league and the FA Cup.”
This is certainly good news for the Toon Army.
Fans were dreaming of Wembley, with the Magpies just one game away from the national stadium.
All we had to do is get past the current holders Manchester City. Then came the possibility that the game might not take place at all.
We even stated that the FA Cup should be scrapped to prioritise the Premier League, despite our desire to win some silverware.
If the FA Cup does continue, that puts even more pressure on the decision makers to fit in all the required fixtures remaining.
Just when will the 2019/20 season finish? Who knows. But the FA still plan on crowning a 2020 FA Cup winner.
Could it be Newcastle?
