Former Newcastle United striker Michael Chopra has said that he would like to see Jose Mourinho as the Magpies’ next manager.

The Special One was fired by Tottenham Hotspur this morning, and it’s believed the reason is for overseeing poor results.

Some had speculated that Mourinho had actually walked out in protest of Spurs signing up for the European Super League.

Either way, the 58-year-old – who has won three Premier League titles in his managerial career – is now out of a job after 17 months in north London.

Obviously there has already been a lot of talk about where he could go next.

Chopra, who started his playing career at St. James’ Park, would not be opposed to seeing Mourinho replace Steve Bruce.

He said on Instagram: “Would love @josemourinho as manager of @nufc.”

Takeover would be needed

For Mourinho to become manager of Newcastle, the club would likely need to be taken over.

He has been one of the best-paid managers in the game for many years.

It’s highly unlikely he’d go to St. James’ Park if Bruce finally got sacked, but the fact he was once the translator for Sir Bobby Robson might just be something some Toon fans will cling to.
