Former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll led the line for Reading as they took on Fulham at home last night.
Unfortunately for big AC, the Royals were hammered 7-0 and Fulham are now one point behind league leaders Bournemouth with a game in hand.
Carroll got a lot of people talking last night. He netted twice for Reading, but both goals were chalked off for offside. However, the two goals were both sensational strikes: one a bicycle kick and the other a volley from outside the box after he’d chested it down. Both came within around 60 seconds of each other.
Both strikes really brought back a lot of nostalgia of Carroll during his heyday at Newcastle. Additionally, the bicycle kick was reminiscent of one he scored previously for West Ham back in 2017.
As great as both goals by Carroll were, they were fairly chalked off
As satisfying as it would’ve been to see Carroll’s goals given, they were both offside. The first strike in particular you can clearly see that he is miles ahead of the last defender.
As for the second one, it’s a lot tighter but he does stray a yard or so off.
Last November Carroll joined Reading on a two-month contract. The former England international was let go by Newcastle last summer and not given a contract extension. He’s made seven appearances for Reading since joining, providing a goal and an assist in the process.
Along with the two offside goals, Carroll has provided some memorable moments for the Royals.
The celebration of his first goal against Swansea was hilarious. Meanwhile, he provided an incredible goal-line clearance against West Brom. You can see both moments below:
Reading currently sit just outside the relegation zone, with Peterborough three points behind with a game in hand.
Former Newcastle man Carroll will hope he can get an extension on his contract and help the Royals stay up this season.
