Newcastle United fans have even more reason to feel a sense of discomfort about Ivan Toney, with the striker having now been nominated for Championship Player of the Season.
The Brentford ace – who was recently named EFL Player of the Year at the London Football Awards – has enjoyed a stunning campaign in 2020/21 for the Bees.

After signing from Peterborough United last summer, the 25-year-old has gone on to plunder 29 goals in the league in 43 appearances.
So prolific has Toney been, that he actually only needs one more goal to equal the record of most goals in a single Championship season – currently held by Glenn Murray.
With two games left to play, Toney will be very hopeful he can score at least one more goal.
Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia of Norwich City are also in the running for the award.
Further egg on Newcastle’s face
Toney’s nomination for Player of the Season won’t make Newcastle fans feel much better about his sale in 2018.

The latest proud moment in his career comes amid the continued struggles in the Premier League of Joelinton (although he has improved slightly in recent weeks) and Dwight Gayle.
And if he manages to fire Brentford into the Premier League, then that will been even harder to stomach.
