Everton have been handed a huge injury boost ahead of their game against Newcastle United tonight as Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks set to start.

The striker has struggled with injuries throughout his career but looks set to have a big part to play in tonight’s fixture which affects both ends of the table.

In his pre-match press conference, Everton boss Sean Dyche revealed that Calvert-Lewin is fit and ready to face Newcastle after missing their last game through injury.

Calvert-Lewin is ‘showing good signs’ ahead of his return

The Sheffield-born striker has done well so far this season to avoid any lengthy spells out of the team, making 12 appearances across the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

He did, however, miss Everton’s most recent victory against Nottingham Forest at the weekend with a calf injury, but it doesn’t seem to be too much of a serious issue.

Calvert-Lewin will be looking to improve on his current record of three goals in 10 games in the league against Newcastle tonight and push Everton out of the relegation zone.

Eddie Howe has already warned his side that they can expect a physical display from their opponents, and Calvert-Lewin will play a huge role in that battle.

In his press conference, Dyche said: “Dom’s showing good signs of being right so he’ll come back into the thinking.”

Calvert-Lewin has a good record against Newcastle

Jamaal Lascelles will have to be on top form to make sure Calvert-Lewin, a physical striker who is brilliant in the air and a good goal poacher, has a terrible evening at Goodison Park.

While he may not have had the greatest goalscoring record for Everton in the last few seasons, Calvert-Lewin has scored five goals in 12 games against Newcastle, his second-best record against any team behind just West Ham with six.

It’s no surprise that Newcastle recruits had wanted the forward after seeing him perform so well for the Toffees every time they came up against the Magpies.

The rumours have died down as of late, but the 26-year-old will still be on Newcastle’s radar for the January window in which they are looking to bolster their attacking depth.
