Newcastle United defender Dan Burn has helped England end their World Cup qualifying campaign in style.
The 33-year-old was named in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI for Sunday’s game against Albania, with the Three Lions winning 2-0 courtesy of a Harry Kane brace.
While the national media were not impressed with Dan Burn’s performance, he remains a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
The giant from Blyth now has five international caps, all of which have come during a historic 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Dan Burn helps England qualify for the World Cup in perfect fashion
Qualifying campaigns are all about getting over the line, and England had no problem in doing that. In fact, they did it in style.
Tuchel’s side won all eight of their qualifiers, boasting an impressive 100% record.
What is even more impressive is that they kept eight clean sheets too. The Three Lions did not concede a single goal during World Cup qualifying, with Dan Burn helping his country make history.
England are the first European team ever to go through an entire qualifying campaign of more than six games without conceding a goal.
While Burn may have his detractors at international level, he has played his part in making history.
How many Newcastle United players have represented England at the World Cup?
Burn has helped England qualify for the 2026 World Cup, and now his aim will be to take part in the main event.
Tuchel is clearly a huge admirer of Burn, so it currently feels likely that the Newcastle United centre-back will be part of the group of players that travel to America, Canada and Mexico.
If he does, he will join an exclusive club. Since the first ever World Cup in 1930, only 11 Newcastle United players have been in an England World Cup squad.
The Magpies actually had three representatives at the last World Cup, with Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope and Callum Wilson with the Three Lions in Qatar.
Burn will hope to follow in their footsteps next summer, with the likes of Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall in contention to feature too.
