Since the start of his 18-month loan began in the summer, Newcastle fans have yet to see young Santiago Munoz. It appears that a muscle injury that he suffered early on has kept the Mexican out of action.
A slow start on Tyneside for Mexican youngster
Munoz joined on loan from Santos Laguna and was put into the U-23s side. Furthermore, this was a lot of intrigue around him with a similar name to the protagonist in the 2005 film, ‘Goal!’. However, unlike Santiago Munez, Munoz has had a slow start to time on Tyneside.
When he put pen to paper and signed the loan deal for the Magpies, there was much intrigue. Some fans thought the signing was done just as a publicity stunt due to the link with the film.
Having said that, many other fans were excited to see what Munoz could offer. He’d been highlighted as an exciting young prospect in Mexico, so some other fans were not willing to write him off yet.

Dickman gives update on Munoz after Sunderland victory
Newcastle U-23s coach Elliott was asked about the whereabouts of Munoz following a 2-0 victory against rivals Sunderland. The game saw young striker Dylan Stephenson bag a brace for the Toon Army.
The Chronicle reported that Dickman stated, “Santi is injured and still doing part of his rehab
“It is likely to be after Christmas I would imagine before we see Santi again in a match situation.”
Thus far it has been a slow start for young Santiago Munoz. Having said that if he can prove his talent for the U-23 in the second half of the season, he could well earn a permanent deal.
Fans have yet to see what Munoz is capable of, but they’re hoping it will be worth the wait.
