Elliot Anderson is currently enjoying his time in the Newcastle United first-team after impressing in pre-season.

20-year-old Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson came through the ranks at the club and now finds himself regularly on Eddie Howe‘s team sheets and has found himself involved in games more often than not this season.

Newcastle fans have been excited to see Anderson break into the first team for a while now after catching the eye at the youth levels.

Anderson earned the nickname ‘Geordie Maradona’ at Bristol Rovers

At 18 Anderson was loaned out to Bristol Rovers where he played under former Magpie Joey Barton.

The Bristol fans absolutely fell in love with Anderson, blessing him with the nickname of ‘Geordie Maradona’ owing to his superb close control with the ball.

Anderson is still waiting for his first competitive goal for Newcastle

“I love it,” said Anderson. “I think it first started when I was on loan and then I came back to Newcastle and I was thinking will it stick or not? It has, to be fair, yeah it’s brilliant, but obviously I’m just trying to do my own thing I guess, but it’s good to have that chant.”

Anderson is still waiting for his first competitive goal after having on wrongly chalked off last season in the game against Nottingham Forest – No, I’m still not over that injustice.

It’s definitely coming as Anderson keeps getting into good positions but just finding himself unable to apply the finish, but it definitely feels like all it will take is one and then the floodgates will be open.
