Newcastle United were held to another home draw against Bournemouth yesterday but it was a big game for one of their players.

Academy graduate and midfielder Joe White came off the bench for the final few minutes to make his Newcastle debut in the Premier League, a moment he’ll remember for the rest of his life.

The youngster took to Instagram where he posted a two-word message to celebrate the occasion and was met with a great response from some of his Newcastle teammates.

Newcastle teammates react to White’s debut

The circumstances weren’t absolutely perfect as Newcastle will feel they should have won, but it doesn’t get much better than making your debut and only minutes later watching your side score a last-minute equaliser.

White did not have much to do in the game given he was brought on in added time, of which there were 10 minutes, but it was a statement from Eddie Howe showing trust in the young man.

There were a few times where the 21-year-old looked to make driving runs towards the opposition, but he will be hoping to make more of an impact in the games to come where he again may have to be relied on by Howe.

White has the full support of his teammates who will be pleased to see yet another academy product in the first team alongside Sean Longstaff, Lewis Miley and Elliot Anderson.

On Instagram, White posted: “The dream”

Paul Dummett then responded with “Congratulations Whitey” while both Jacob Murphy and Elliot Anderson reacted with “Congrats bro”.

Newcastle have no need to panic just yet

Following the first few games of the new year, defeats to Liverpool and Man City, Newcastle had lost seven of their last 10 games across all competitions and things were looking quite bleak.

Fast forward a couple of months and they are now unbeaten in five, have won four away games on the bounce and have an FA Cup fifth round tie against Blackburn to look forward to next week.

That’s not to say supporters aren’t justified when they claim that they should be beating the likes of Bournemouth and Luton at home, they absolutely should, but there has definitely been a turnaround in form.

Newcastle now have to focus on sorting out their defensive issues, which are largely coming from a disjointed midfield, and try to make a big push in the two competitions they remain in.
