Newcastle were abysmal against Wolves, but Elias Sorensen can at least be happy with his performance.
The Magpies were toothless all over the pitch, with many senior players seemingly forgetting everything they learnt under Rafa Benitez.

A lot of youth players also featured, especially in the second half. Now you can’t fault their efforts, even if they did lack quality. It’s to be expected.
But Elias Sorensen looked like he belonged out there. He replaced the woeful Yoshinori Muto upfront, and did more than the Japanese forward has done throughout his entire Newcastle career.

While the youngster didn’t score, he was certainly a presence. Sorensen used the ball well, linking up with his teammates and keeping possession. It’s exactly what Salomon Rondon did last season. He was able to bring others into the game and battle with defenders.
It’s a shame a chance didn’t fall Sorensen’s way, as you’d have backed him to take it.

With less than 45 minutes of football, Sorensen has hopefully propelled himself up the pecking order. Joelinton is reportedly on his way, then the only other option is Dwight Gayle.
Steve Bruce might view things differently, but Sorensen should get a chance in the Premier League next season. He deserves it more than Muto.
