Eddie Howe thought Callum Wilson was brilliant last night

Callum Wilson netted another brace last night at Everton and is now enjoying his highest scoring season as a Newcastle United player and his manager, Eddie Howe is enjoying what he’s seeing.

That’s 13 goals for Callum Wilson this season now, his best return in a black and white shirt and with six more games to go, he’s not done yet.

Wilson is pushing hard to make sure he’s not forgotten about while Alexander Isak grows into life in the Premier League and steals the headlines.

Howe says Wilson is ‘in a good place’

Last night Eddie Howe was full of praise for the England striker for his efforts. During his post-match press conference, Howe was asked if Wilson was selected ahead of Isak because of his record against Everton with the gaffer saying: “It was part of a wider rotation, but again I was aware of Callum’s record against Everton having been the manager for most of those goals that he’s scored against them.

“His performance today was second to none it really was. I think mentally, he knew it’s difficult and he’s got to take his opportunity when it comes. Two goals, two very different goals but two special goals for us so I think he’s in a good place.”

Wilson was pipped to BT Sport’s Player of the Match by Joelinton

BT Sport gave the Man of the Match award to Joelinton, who was definitely in the conversation, but two goals for Callum Wilson, one of which was a stupendous effort from outside of the box – a rarity for Wilson, earned him the accolade from me. It seems Eddie Howe agrees too.

Wilson now has eight goals in his last six appearances against Everton. BT Sport published this Tweet during the game last night but Wilson went on to help himself to another goal.
