Eddie Howe states exactly what must happen for Newcastle to make more signings this summer

As it stands, Newcastle United will not be making any more signings this summer.

With less than a week to go before the transfer window closes, it looks like Lewis Hall will be our final addition. He joined at the start of the week on loan from Chelsea, and will become a permanent Magpie next summer.

Hall joins Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento as our summer recruits, and it is fair to say that Howe is delighted with the club’s business. His squad has been majorly enhanced, bringing in young players who are going to grow and develop at St James’ Park.

At the start of the summer, Newcastle did plan to sign a right-sided centre-back. At the moment, that is the only thing needed to cap off what has been almost perfect window. However, it does not look like we have the finances for that.

Instead, Howe will now go with what he has got for the first half of the season. However, he has admitted that the club could dip back into the market on one condition.

More Newcastle signings unlikely for Eddie Howe

Ahead of the game against Liverpool, Howe spoke to the media. He was asked if the Hall deal would be Newcastle’s last or if there was the possibility of another arrival.

“It’s still the case at the moment,” he said.

“I think unless something happens to a couple of players in one position before the window shutting then we won’t be adding to the squad.”

No plans for a dramatic final week

Unless Newcastle sell a couple of players in the same position or pick up some injuries, it looks like Newcastle are closed for business.

It feels like the only way the Magpies will be active again is if they have to react to a situation. If the above does not happen, they will not be signing anyone else.

It would be a major shock if another player did arrive, even if there were injuries. The club are surely at their limit with regards to financial fair play, and already have £28million set aside to spend on Hall next summer.

Signing a right-sided centre-back would be a dream, but that is not going to become a reality unless the likes of Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles pick up injuries between now and the end of next week. And that is something that is not worth even considering.
