Eddie Howe picked up his first win as Newcastle United boss this weekend. His side was victorious, beating relegation rivals Burnley 1-0. Furthermore, the victory gives the Magpies a big lift going into a tough run of fixtures. In this period they will face Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Howe has rewarded his players following the Burnley victory with a day off. The Chronicle reported that Howe had said: “I want the players to enjoy winning – you have to have that feeling.

“And I want them to enjoy this moment and then be prepared to work and fight very soon.

“I am delighted for everybody connected with the club.”

Howe praises fans and players for playing their part

Additionally, The Chronicle added that he was full of praise for the fans and their support: “I can’t praise the supporters enough, I thought they were absolutely incredible.

“The relationship that we have quickly built with the supporters has been a really special one.

“They were absolutely magnificent.”

What followed was the Newcastle boss speaking highly of the players at the club. He’s been impressed with the group of players in his first few weeks in charge.

He added: “For the players, I can’t thank them enough and I think it is an amazing feeling to get that first win as a big thank you for everything they have given me and the team in the last few weeks.

“We knew how desperate they were for that first victory.

“It is an amazing feeling and the reaction at the end can only galvanise us to hopefully move forward.”

Newcastle boss approaching fixtures one game at a time.

It is clear when you look at the Toon Army’s fixture run, it is a very difficult one. However, for Eddie Howe, his approach is not to look at a group of fixtures, instead, taking it game by game.

In the same report, he stated: “I try not to look at groups of fixtures.

“We’ll be really boosted by the win, that should give us a lot of confidence, and hopefully some positive momentum to take into a tough away fixture.

“It’s one we can look forward to.

“We have a bit of preparation time, we will rest players initially and then start working hard and try to back up today’s win.”

Next, the Magpies will face Leicester City away. Now could be the ideal time to be playing the Foxes who have had an average start to the season. They were defeated 2-1 after a dismal display against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

Furthermore, with confidence being the highest it has been this season and opponents in disappointing form, it could be the ideal time. Another win will put pressure on the teams around Newcastle, many of whom have similar hard runs.
