Eddie Howe is a man who carries his work with him wherever he goes and that has its benefits for Newcastle United but for the man himself it could be a blessing and a curse.
Everyone feels like they’re their own biggest critic, but imagine being as intense and as much of a workaholic as Newcastle boss Eddie Howe and having that critical voice. It must be a nightmare.
Howe has been speaking to The Daily Mail and he has admitted that the fear that drives him comes from inside more than any external influence, which is why he wouldn’t be too afraid if he was summoned for talks with Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
Eddie Howe says his own fears motivate him more than outside influence
“The pressure I feel is from myself,” Howe told the Mail. “Even if Yasir could sit me down and have a talk, I would welcome that. And if he wanted to give me direct objectives, no problem, that wouldn’t create a fear in me. The fear comes from myself.
“I know the expectations of the club. I know his thoughts and aims and ambitions and I want to hit those targets for him. Ultimately, I have to look at myself. I can only do what I can do. That is what I mark myself against – what I am giving? If I am giving my all, that is all I can do.”
Now that Eddie Howe has been at Newcastle for over 18 months, the fans have got to know how he operates quite well and I can’t imagine that anyone could accuse him of not giving his all for the job.
Amazon’s Newcastle documentary will gives us a look at Howe at work
The Amazon documentary is set to start next week where we will get to see a bit more behind the scenes what Howe is like day to day and in the dressing room at Newcastle.
Prime Video released a clip on social media yesterday showing Howe’s team-talk ahead of the 2-0 victory over Manchester United which is goosebump-inducing stuff.
Without wishing anxiety on the man, I hope Howe keeps that fear within if this is the result, he’ll have Newcastle lifting silverware in no time.
