Eddie Howe says referee made another decision which surprised him last night even before the handball

Eddie Howe has admitted that he was taken aback by how much stoppage time was added at the end of Newcastle United’s clash against PSG.

Eight minutes of additional time were shown once the 90 minutes were up in Paris as the French giants won a controversial penalty to secure a late point from the spot.

With VAR’s decision to award PSG a spot-kick the main talking point from the entire night, the issue of how much time was added has been somewhat misplaced.

Yet speaking to the club’s official website, Howe brought up his annoyance with how much time was added in the second-half, with the Newcastle boss feeling it was simply more than it should have been.

Indeed, it was a night where Newcastle can rightly feel robbed of another famous UEFA Champions League win, and Howe had some choice words on the amount of stoppage time that was added.

Howe said: “Yes, we were [surprised]. Although maybe with Europe and the way the game is going maybe not at the same time. I didn’t feel it was eight minutes. But, yeah, I don’t know what to say.”

Eddie Howe should be more mad with Newcastle’s end result vs PSG

Whilst Howe is quite reserved and calm when it comes to modern-day Premier League managers, the Newcastle coach should have let rip a bit more in his post-match comments.

The Magpies were truly done over by VAR having lost three massive points due to a soft penalty as well as UEFA’s time-keeping giving PSG more time to find an equaliser against Newcastle.

Whilst there’s obvious reasons why Howe didn’t go off after the draw, some passion and fury from the Newcastle manager could have been welcome.

The Toon will fear a great injustice has been done to them this week in Europe, and if Newcastle miss out on qualification for the next round, this draw with PSG will be the main reason why.
