Eddie Howe revealed a shocking truth about Sandro Tonali in his Friday morning press conference ahead of the trip to Sheffield United.
There has been many a post on social media about how Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali don’t seem to be able to play together for Newcastle United.
It’s a valid assessment based off what we’ve seen so far, but obviously something that is very likely to change as the season goes on and the pair get used to each other’s play styles.
Howe has said that Tonali has barely trained this past month
It turns out that one of the big reasons why they aren’t building up much of a rapport just yet is due to the fact that Tonali has hardly trained with the squad recently.
The £55million signing from AC Milan got off to a flying start with a debut goal against Aston Villa in the season opener, but he’s not really hit those heights since.

Speaking to the media this morning (via NUFC TV on YouTube), Eddie Howe has now shed some light on what’s going on with his ‘incredible‘ midfielder: “His performance against Aston Villa was high level. I think it’s no surprise that that performance against Aston Villa came after he was with us for pre-season for four and a bit weeks.
“Since then he’s hardly trained with us – internationals, injury – he’s had one training session in near enough a month. That’s tough for any new player transitioning into a team. You need to train regularly.
“He’s adapting very well, he’s an incredible personality. He’s stable and he’s committed to the project.”
Tonali and Bruno are two of Europe’s best midfielders
If Tonali has barely trained with the side for a month then he’s having to forge his partnership with Bruno on the fly during games which is why their link-up is kind of sloppy so far.

As Tonali trains more with the team and alongside Bruno we will no doubt see the two forging an excellent partnership as two of the best midfielders in Europe playing side-by-side.
We know there’s so much more to come from Tonali and indeed Bruno. It’s still early in the season to be writing players off.
