Eddie Howe sat ‘electric’ Newcastle man down for talks over the summer, he’s on fire now

Newcastle United are very much looking the real deal right now after a 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain put the cherry on the top of the cake that is Newcastle’s turnaround in form this season.

Anthony Gordon has been a huge part of Newcastle’s impressive run of form lately. His outstanding energy levels never seem to drop and it has all come about after a series of sit downs with Eddie Howe at the back-end of last season.

According to a report from inews, which quite rightly posits the theory that Eddie Howe is one of Europe’s top managers, Howe sat down with ‘electric‘ Anthony Gordon at various times last season after the £45million January signing struggled to find his feet.

Whatever Howe said to Gordon last season has clearly worked

Whatever Howe said to Gordon has clearly worked as he’s now up there with Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier as one of Newcastle’s most important players.

By his own admission, Gordon found it hard when he first came to Newcastle. His fitness was nowhere near good enough to keep up with the training and that frustration bled through into his game.

It even boiled over when he was hooked by Eddie Howe at Brentford and we saw the brattier side of Gordon.

Thankfully that part of him seems to have left now, and despite picking up five Premier League bookings already this season, his discipline continues to improve. He has just been unlucky with a couple of decisions.

We even saw it last night as Newcastle demolished Paris Saint-Germain when Gordon picked up a booking when replays showed he made no contact with the PSG player.

Gordon has to be on the brink of an England call-up

If Eddie Howe can turn around Anthony Gordon from struggling winger to the level he is at now in such a short space of time, surely he has to be taken more seriously and people should be putting more respect on his name.

Gordon will be unavailable for the game against West Ham on Sunday through suspension, and that leads into an international break, so he will have plenty of time to recharge his batteries ready to assault the Premier League again.

Unless of course, Gareth Southgate sees sense and gives him his first senior England call-up.
