When you watch Newcastle United put six past Champions League rivals Tottenham, it’s incredible to think there was a point during this season in which goals in the team were questioned.
Indeed, around the turn of the year and leading up to the Carabao Cup final, Eddie Howe’s side were struggling to put the ball in the back of the net.
Still, although there’s some way to go until Champions League football is confirmed, Sunday’s huge win against a rival on that front was a huge statement of intent.

The Magpies raced into a five, yes five, goal lead in the first-half and ended up winning what was billed as a tight game 6-1.
After the game, Howe was full of praise for his forwards.
Eddie Howe hails “incredible” finishing in Tottenham win
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Howe said: “The quality of our finishing was incredible. They weren’t stick-on goals. We were lethal in front of goal.
“Everything about our first half an hour was where we want to be.
“Since I walked through the door here the players have responded so well. I can’t thank them enough.”
Newcastle could still have had more
All of Sean Longstaff, Alexander Isak and Dan Burn could have added a sixth before Callum Wilson scored within seconds of coming onto the field.
Take a broader view, however, and Newcastle’s attack starts to look very healthy.

All of Isak, Wilson and Miguel Almiron are into double figures for the season. Joelinton, across all competitions, is on seven for the campaign. Even Jacob Murphy has chipped in with three.
There are options and, hopefully, Anthony Gordon can break his duck before the end of the season.
All of a sudden, Newcastle have palpable goal threats everywhere you look.
