Just before Eddie Howe faced the media this morning it was announced that Callum Wilson had signed a one-year contract extension at Newcastle United.

It was a contract announcement that seemingly came out of the blue but a very welcome one as Callum Wilson signed on the dotted line to extend his stay at Newcastle until 2025.

Newcastle’s number nine has 40 goals and 10 assists in 86 appearances which is a phenomenal return. If it wasn’t for his fitness issues he would be more widely recognised as one of the Premier League‘s all-time greats. Newcastle fans won’t mind though, he’s like a secret weapon that people are only just starting to take notice of.

Eddie Howe has hailed Callum Wilson as ‘outstanding’

Eddie Howe who has found himself managing Callum Wilson for a second time after treading the same path from Bournemouth to Newcastle, is overjoyed that Wilson has committed his future to the club telling Newcastle’s official site: “We’re very pleased because Callum has been an integral part of our success.

“He’s an outstanding person, an outstanding footballer and I’m delighted he’s going to be with us for longer.

“He’s an incredibly motivated person and I’ve never seen Callum not motivated to score goals. I think that’s a great thing for a striker.

“He’s always there in training and in games, wanting to score goals, and I’m sure that’ll be driving him on to achieve more and more with Newcastle United at a very exciting time for the club.”

There’s no better way for Wilson to celebrate than scoring tomorrow

Wilson has often spoken about how being dropped for Alexander Isak only motivates him even more to score goals and that has shown in his recent goals return from off the bench.

There have been calls for Wilson to start ahead of Isak tomorrow against Brentford, or at least to start both together and it’s a good shout. More firepower is not a bad thing.

Hopefully Wilson will celebrate his new contract with a goal tomorrow night.
