Eddie Howe is targeting Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy in January as Newcastle United look to bolster their attack.

Newcastle have two of the most clinical strikers in the Premier League right now, but their injury problems are forcing the club to look for reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.

Journalist Christian Falk has now claimed that Newcastle have ‘concrete’ interest in Guirassy after his ‘unbelievable’ start to the season for Stuttgart, but will face competition from Manchester United in the race for his signature.

Newcastle are not lacking goals

There may be some eyebrows raised at this potential signing simply because Newcastle are not lacking goalscorers at the minute. This season, Alexander Isak has netted nine times, Callum Wilson seven times and Anthony Gordon six times.

Newcastle are very threatening going forwards and have scored three or more goals on six occasions this season, but it is the availability of those scorers which is a problem for Howe.

Isak has already been out with a groin injury that he then reaggravated on international duty while Wilson remains out after picking up a knock in the game against Borussia Dortmund three weeks ago.

As Falk claims, Howe has now placed Stuttgart’s Guirassy on Newcastle’s shortlist for January and he is clearly keen to avoid another situation where he is forced to play Gordon through the middle again.

Guirassy has been outstanding for Stuttgart

This season, Guirassy has 16 goals in 11 Bundesliga games for Stuttgart and has attracted a lot of interest from Premier League clubs with Newcastle very keen on the attacker.

It’s clear that the 27-year-old has a keen eye for goal, but it’s not so obvious if he would be willing to play third choice to Wilson and Isak should both of them be fit and ready to play.

Howe managed the two strikers brilliantly last season as both seemed to keep scoring every time the 46-year-old rotated the team, providing some healthy competition for each other.

Whether Guirassy would come in and do a similar job remains to be seen, but he is certainly someone Howe admires and will continue to monitor throughout this month.
