Newcastle United are sweating on Sandro Tonali’s fitness ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game against Fulham.
The Italian midfielder has been suffering from illness, which resulted in him sitting on the bench for Newcastle United’s win over Benfica in the Champions League.
Newcastle United coped without Sandro Tonali, with Lewis Miley performing incredibly well in place of the Magpies’ number eight. That is a testament to the teenager, who will hope to retain his place in the starting XI for the game against Fulham.
That remains a possibility after Eddie Howe provided an update on Sandro Tonali’s fitness ahead of facing Fulham.
Ahead of Newcastle United vs Fulham in the Premier League, The Toon boss has spoken to the media.
Howe was asked about Tonali’s condition, telling the Chronicle: “We are still monitoring Sandro.
He did train on Wednesday but wasn’t 100% so he is touch and go for the game.”

Eddie Howe confirms Sandro Tonali contract extension
Howe also confirmed that Tonali has extended his Newcastle United contract, with the 25-year-old’s deal now running until 2029. There is also the option of another year, which means the Magpies are effectively protected until 2030.
That is very encouraging, as there is a renewed focus on the club tying down their biggest stars following the Alexander Isak saga.
Geordie Boot Boys understand that Tonali is very happy on Tyneside, which will delight Newcastle United fans who absolutely idolise the midfield maestro from Milano.
