Newcastle United enjoyed a positive April, rising up to third in the Premier League table.
The Magpies are in a position where Champions League qualification looks like a genuine possibility thanks to their fine form in 2025, which can only be bettered by Premier League champions Liverpool.
Eddie Howe’s side have been in dreamland for the last six weeks following a historic Carabao Cup win before winning five of their last six games in the league. The hope is that Newcastle United have no plans on stopping to secure a top-five finish this season.
There is no doubt that the Magpies are in the position they are this season thanks to players like Alexander Isak. The Swede has scored 22 Premier League goals this season, his best goalscoring season in since moving to England in 2022.

Elsewhere, the form of defenders Dan Burn and Fabian Schar has kept Newcastle in games they should have been well out of this season. Burn received his first England call-up in March as a reward for his fine work.
While those players have performed well throughout the season, two players have been rewarded for their form over the last month following an official Premier League announcement.

Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes nominated for Premier League Player of the Month
This season has undoubtedly been the best for Jacob Murphy since joining the Magpies in 2017. At one point during his career, it looked like Murphy could have left Newcastle. However, the 30-year-old has defied the odds and shown why Eddie Howe was right to put faith in him this season.
Murphy has been Newcastle’s only natural right-wing option since the January transfer window after Miguel Almiron left in favour of a return to Atlanta United.
Harvey Barnes has enjoyed renewed game time in Newcastle’s starting XI following suspension and subsequent injury to Anthony Gordon. Barnes has started the last six games and has even kept his place in the starting XI after Gordon’s return.
The pair’s fantastic form in April has seen them nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award. Fans are encouraged to vote for who they believe was the league’s best player over the past month. A win for one of the pair would see them become the second Newcastle player to win the award this season, with Isak winning the award in December.

Jacob Murphy has proven why he deserves a new Newcastle United deal
During his April form, Jason Tindall praised Murphy, believing the winger goes ‘under the radar’ for what he contributes during games.
While he is in the form of his life at Newcastle, there is a chance that he will become a second-choice winger for the 2025/26 campaign. Howe wants a new right winger this summer to add more depth and quality in that position. There will also be a fear that he is not able to keep up the same performance levels as he has this season in the future.
Despite that, Newcastle are set to give Murphy a new contract as a reward for his exceptional campaign. The Englishman signed with a new agency earlier in 2025, joining Wasserman.
The Los Angeles-based agency also represents Newcastle figures Tino Livramento, Barnes and Toon boss Howe.
