Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that Callum Wilson’s injury absence is now set to be extended.

The 32-year-old has not played for Newcastle United all season, with Callum Wilson suffering from a back injury then a hamstring problem.

It had been hoped that Wilson was going to return for the Premier League clash with Brighton, but that came and went without the number nine making his comeback.

It was then reported that Wilson would miss three more Newcastle games – the Chelsea double-header and the clash with Arsenal.

Eddie Howe confirmed that Wilson would miss those three games, with the third set to take place on Saturday when Arsenal arrive at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe provides Callum Wilson update ahead of Arsenal

But now the Newcastle United manager has provided a further update on Wilson, and it looks like his injury layoff is going to be extended even further.

Howe has spoken to the media ahead of facing Arsenal, and has addressed when Wilson could return from injury.

“Callum is doing okay, he’s building his load again,” he said.

“There was no real injury but just a feeling in his body that he couldn’t push as hard as he wanted. We’ll see how he is but probably with the two-week gap [the international break] it’s best to leave it.”

Wilson latest puts more pressure on Alexander Isak

With Wilson set to be absent until after the next international break, that means he will miss next weekend’s trip to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest.

That means another week of no proper support for Alexander Isak, who is continuously forced to play more than he should have to.

It could be good news for Will Osula though, who is playing a little bit more in the absence of Wilson.

When Callum Wilson could return for Newcastle

Newcastle’s first game after the next international break is November 25th at home to West Ham United. That is a Monday night game underneath the lights, and could be the perfect stage for Wilson to make his comeback.

Wilson loves scoring against West Ham. He has played against the Hammers 14 times in his career, scoring 12 goals.

Hopefully he is fit by then, as Newcastle United fans are once again asked to wait a little bit longer to see Wilson in action.
