After handing him his debut last season Eddie Howe has once again called up Lewis Miley to train with the Newcastle United first team.
The Newcastle lads only just returned to training ahead of what will be their biggest season in decades. The Magpies are linked with numerous players in the transfer market but Eddie Howe is also looking closer to home for potential squad additions.
17-year-old Lewis Miley who made his first-team debut towards the end of last season, has been spotted training in with the senior side after already having trained with the Under 21s.
Lewis Miley continues keep himself in Eddie Howe’s thoughts
The Chronicle has featured a gallery of photos from the first training session with Lewis Miley seen arriving for duty.
Howe is a big admirer of Miley, calling him an ‘exciting talent‘ last season in an interview where he said he wants to keep Miley at Newcastle this season rather than send him out on loan.

It sounds like Howe has big plans for the young midfielder who came within a whisker of scoring a worldie on his Newcastle debut against Chelsea on the final game of the season. The ball came to Miley on the edge of the area and he struck it sweetly aiming for the top corner but the ball clipped the bar and went behind. It was still impressive enough to get people excited.
Miley won’t take up a squad place for the Premier League
Miley only signed his first professional contract last year but it seems he’s already on the right track to becoming a future star at Newcastle.

Having Miley around next season will help with the ‘home-grown’ quota of players required for the Champions League and, because he’s a youth player, he won’t need to be included in the 25-man squad registration and will still be eligible to play in the Premier League.
How much he will actually feature for the first-team remains to be seen, but if he pushes hard and impresses in training there’s no reason why Eddie Howe won’t give him a shot as he proved last season.
