Eddie Howe has admitted to the media that he is content with the options available to him in one key position at Newcastle United and isn’t looking to add any players for that area this summer.

Speaking to the assembled media in the USA ahead of Newcastle‘s first Premier League Summer Series match against Aston Villa at midnight tonight (UK time), Eddie Howe was grilled about the transfer window, his incomings, outgoings, his wants and needs.

There was one position that he was asked about which Howe suggested he had adequate cover for.

Howe knows where Newcastle need to strengthen and where they don’t

While he didn’t flat-out say he wouldn’t strengthen if he could, Howe did say that he is happy with his forward options and that due to budget constraints he won’t be looking to add any players in that position.

Talking about his strike force, Howe told reporters (via NUFC TV): “I think when you look at our striking options we’ve obviously got two top, top players possibly competing for one position depending what system we play.

“Then behind that we’ve also got Anthony Gordon who can play central and he’s done it very well. So with the price of front players being so high I don’t think that’s an area, with the budget that we have, that we can go into this summer.”

Eddie Howe wants two top players for every position at Newcastle

Howe has always said he wants two top players for every position and as long as he’s playing one up top he’s definitely got that in Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak with Anthony Gordon as another back-up. We have our bases covered.

Obviously it would be nice to bring another forward in so that Howe could tinker and play Wilson and Isak together more often, but there are definitely other positions that demand Howe’s attention and the PIF’s money more than strikers.

With Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes adding to Newcastle’s creativity next season and Gordon coming back from the Under 21 Euros a changed man, goals shouldn’t be a problem for Howe’s men next term.
