Some Newcastle fans were full of praise for makeshift centre-back Isaac Hayden after his performance against West Bromwich Albion.
The Englishman filled in at centre-back after Newcastle’s squad was depleted by an outbreak of coronavirus, and it’s fair to say that Hayden performed very well in that new role.
Hayden didn’t exactly have a baptism of fire as he faced off against one of the least-potent attacking outfits in the division in the shape of West Brom, but he still had to do his job, and he did it well.
The Baggies of course got a goal in the second half through Darnell Furlong, but that wasn’t enough to deny the Magpies all three points as a late Dwight Gayle goal secured the win for Steve Bruce’s side.
Hayden was solid in the defence against West Brom, and it’s great to see that Bruce now has an extra defensive option for if an injury crisis or another covid breakout tears his squad apart.
Supporters on social media were understandably buzzing with Hayden’s showing.
