The stand-out name on Newcastle’s list of released players announced yesterday, was undoubtedly that of midfielder Mo Diame.
The Senegal international’s contract is due to expire at the end of this month, and the writing was on the wall for the player, when he was left out of the starting line-up for a few games near the end of the season, to prevent the automatic triggering of an extension.
He has been a good servant to the Magpies, and few fans will forget the impact his post-Christmas performances had in achieving a top ten finish two seasons ago.
He was a bit of a cult figure at Newcastle, with his scintillating form during the aforementioned spell, largely accompanied by frustrating displays.
But one thing that is not in question, was his willingness to give everything for the black and white cause, and he always put in maximum effort.
