Newcastle United full-back DeAndre Yedlin has revealed his surprise at the lack of progress on his contract situation at the club.
The USA international is able to leave St. James’ Park on a free transfer in the summer, and fans have been wondering if he’ll be extending.
Newcastle have been in a rut recently, but Yedlin has been far from the worst player.
It was reported recently that Yedlin had a serious offer from an MLS side (SBI Soccer).
There has been nothing further on that, but the £5 million player (Chronicle) has spoken of his frustration about the lack of movement over the situation.
He said (CBS Sports): “At this moment [I want] just some clarity over whether Newcastle want me to stay or whether I can go.
“Whatever it is it’s something that needs to be talked about pretty quickly because there’s six months left on my contract. If I am going to leave Newcastle there’s steps I need to take in terms of talking to other teams and things like that.
“There’s been no clarity. My agent has reached out to people at Newcastle and they’ve responded back saying ‘yes, we’ll call you’ and there are no calls back. That has been quite frustrating.”
Yedlin situation needs resolving
It won’t surprise too many Newcastle supporters to learn that the board are taking their time over Yedlin’s contract.
But it needs sorting out as soon as possible.
It would be somewhat embarrassing if Newcastle intend to offer Yedlin an extension, but the player agrees a pre-contract with another club due to the time taken for that offer to come.
