Newcastle were a little bit off the boil last weekend when they faced Bournemouth, and David Seaman has singled out the performance of Dan Burn to highlight this.
Speaking on his Seaman Says Podcast, the former England goalkeeper said: “I don’t know what it is with this Newcastle side at the moment because they were flying and they were beating everybody. I see against Bournemouth, Dan Burn who is usually so confident and competent, he was getting torn to bits.”

Maybe he was thinking too much about his new suit
As Seaman said, Burn has been so dependable this season, especially considering he is playing out of position. His performances even earned him a PFA Player Of The Month nomination for January. However, that form was nowhere to be seen at the Vitality Stadium with Burn losing possession which led to the Bournemouth goal.
Burn, who was “away to get me suit measured” after securing the club’s Carabao Cup place is maybe letting his love for the club and his desire to be part of history distract him from league performances.
However, it does feel a bit unfair pointing the finger at Burn when the whole team looked leggy from the kick-off. Alexander Isak wasn’t given a sniff of goal all game and Allan Saint-Maximin found himself running down blind alleys as he had no other options available. Even Kieran Trippier had an off day by his standards.

Howe must find a way to raise the player’s heads
There has been a bit of overreaction online too with fans hitting the panic button and calling for Burn to be dropped, but one poor performance from the £13 million signing doesn’t pull down his entire season. It’s not just Burn, the whole team looks off the pace which is down to our weak squad depth more than anybody’s ability.
It’s now down to Eddie Howe to find a way to rally the troops, get them to lift their heads up and return to winning ways so that we can put this “poor” run behind us, starting by destroying Liverpool at St James’ Park on Saturday followed by a slaying of the Red Devils at Wembley the following week.
