Dan Burn expects Newcastle to take the game to Manchester United this weekend

Newcastle United take on Manchester United this weekend, and Toon defender Dan Burn is expecting his side to go toe-to-toe with the Red Devils.

It’s set to be fifth vs sixth at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, as the Magpies look to make it three wins on the bounce.

Eddie Howe’s side are enjoying a very strong start to the season, and have been impressive in back-to-back wins over Fulham and Brentford. Newcastle have scored nine goals in 180 minutes of football, and will now look to flex their attacking muscles at the alleged Theatre of Dreams.

Erik ten Hag has had a mixed start to life at Old Trafford, with big wins over Liverpool and Arsenal. However, there have also been defeats to Brentford and Brighton.

Who knows which Man United will turn up on Sunday, but £13million January signing Burn has already told them what to expect from Newcastle.

Ahead of Newcastle’s game against Manchester United, Burn has appeared on TalkSPORT (9.30am, 11/10/22). The 30-year-old was asked if his side will be looking forward to the fixture amid their impressive form.

“Yeah, I think you enjoy going to Old Trafford anyway,” Burn said.

“It’s one of those grounds where you love to play at.

“But this season I don’t think we fear anyone. We’ve went toe-to-toe with the best teams in Man City and Liverpool, and it’ll be the same with Man United.”

Newcastle can take the game to Man United

While Man United will pose a tougher challenge than Fulham or Brentford, there’s no reason Newcastle shouldn’t be confident going into this game.

As Burn says, we have gone toe-to-toe with both Manchester City and Liverpool. The first game ended in a 3-3 draw, while the second was a 2-1 defeat. However, the trip to Anfield certainly ended in controversial fashion.

But our performances in both games show that we can mix it up with the top teams. We dominated for large spells against both, which is incredibly impressive given the standard they have played at in recent years.

Newcastle should go to Old Trafford with the belief that they can get three points. Howe’s team are playing very well and various players are enjoying purple patches.

Everything has gone right for Newcastle in our past two games, and if that happens again on Sunday then it could be a famous win against Man United.
