Dan Burn disagrees with one thing that everyone is saying about Newcastle this season

Dan Burn has now made a bold claim about the injury crisis at Newcastle United after they lost 1-0 to Luton yesterday afternoon.

Newcastle again had injuries all over the pitch and added Jamaal Lascelles to that list as the captain was forced off before half time and replaced by Sven Botman.

However, in an interview with NUFCTV after the game, Burn refused to use the injury problem as an excuse and admitted that the team just haven’t been good enough away from home this season.

Burn says Newcastle’s injury worries are no excuse for bad form

It looks to just be one problem after another at the minute for Newcastle who are going through their toughest period since Eddie Howe came in.

In the last two weeks Newcastle have been knocked out of the Champions League, knocked out of the Carabao Cup and lost three of their last four Premier League games causing them to fall to seventh.

The injuries have certainly had a huge impact on the campaign as Howe hasn’t had the chance to rotate his squad and use the likes of Harvey Barnes or Joe Willock and have been missing for most of the season.

But Burn doesn’t want to put this bad run of form down to injures, and the starting 11 who faced Luton yesterday certainly had more than enough quality to overcome their opponents.

In his interview, Burn said: “Any time you’re getting beat there’s obviously something not right.

“But I don’t like using the injuries as an excuse, I think we’ve built a team to compete in all four competitions.

“Don’t get me wrong we have been unlucky with injures, but every single team has injuries so I’m not having that.

“I just think that for one reason or another we didn’t perform in that first half, that’s what’s cots us.”

Newcastle need to get back to their best against Nottingham Forest

One thing Newcastle can look to focus on is that they’ve got a very winnable game coming up against Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day where they can look to get things back on track before heading into January.

With the game taking place at St James’ Park there’s no reason for the team not to be full of confidence, especially as Forest are one of the only teams in the league who have a worse away record than Newcastle.

A win could see Newcastle fire themselves back into a Europa League spot and it would set them up nicely for the new year before preparing to take on Liverpool and Sunderland in their next two huge fixtures.
