Dan Burn could miss chance to make Newcastle debut against Everton

Dan Burn might have to wait to make his Newcastle United debut.

The Magpies take on Everton on Tuesday night, with three new arrivals looking to make their first appearance in a Toon shirt.

Eddie Howe’s side haven’t played a single game since Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett and Burn joined the club.

There’s a lot of excitement around the new arrivals, who will hopefully boost our survival aspirations.

However, Burn’s first Newcastle appearance might be put on hold.

Toe injury could delay Dan Burn’s debut

Howe spoke to the media ahead of Tuesday’s game against Everton, and admitted that his big new centre-back has a toe problem.

“The only thing is Dan has a slight toe problem that has been aggravating him the last few days,” Howe said, as reported by the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder.

“Which hopefully is nothing too serious, small thing (infected toe) that can sometimes be a big thing.”

No Burn would be a disappointment for Newcastle

The Magpies tried desperately to sign centre-backs in January. They ended the month with just one coming in, and they left it late with the deal confirmed 15 minutes before the window closed.

Big targets such as Sven Botman and Diego Carlos failed to arrive at St James’ Park. However, Burn still looked like a smart addition.

He’s a local lad who knows the club, and has plenty of Premier League experience. He’s strong in possession too having worked with Graham Potter, which is exactly what Howe wants from his defenders.

But if Burn is out injured, the Toon boss will have to stick with what he had before January.

Newcastle have been shocking defensively this season, and must improve if they’re to stay up. That’s why January was so pivotal.

Burn was the only arrival, but his debut might be delayed. Hopefully it’s nothing too major, and he can play a part in what is set to be a huge game against Frank Lampard’s Toffees.
