Dan Ashworth believes Elliot Anderson has all the attributes to have a ‘successful career’ after he signed a new contract with Newcastle United.
The deal was announced on Wednesday morning at 11am, with the 19-year-old signing a new four-year deal at St James’ Park.
It’s the latest milestone in what has been a sensational 2022 for the youngster. It started with a memorable loan spell with Tranmere Rovers where he guided Joey Barton’s side to promotion. Now he’s part of Eddie Howe’s first-team setup at Newcastle and is holding his own in the Premier League.
Considering he was heavily linked with another loan move away, it’s a huge testament to his ability that he’s forced his way into Howe’s plans.
Anderson is already having an impact in black and white, influencing games off the bench. But his future is even brighter, and he has the potential to become a real Toon hero.

“It’s crucial for the club and our Academy to provide a pathway for our young players and a belief that if they are good enough, they will get an opportunity to play.
“Steve Harper with the Academy and Eddie Howe and his staff have been brilliant with Elliot. They have given him an opportunity and some great coaching and development to enable him to get to this level.
“Elliot has shown he has the attributes to have a successful career at this level and we hope he will be here for a long time to come.”

As Ashworth says, his role at Newcastle isn’t just to buy and sell players. It’s essential that the club produces its own talent. And that is exactly what is happening with Anderson.
