Crazy talk of Gareth Bale to Newcastle can finally be put to bed

It’s official – Newcastle United are not going to sign Gareth Bale this summer.

The Welsh forward’s future has been a huge topic of debate after it was confirmed he would be leaving Real Madrid when his contract expires.

Bale has got a World Cup to prepare for, with Wales qualifying for the tournament in Qatar earlier this month. Interestingly, they will be up against England in Group B.

The 32-year-old needs to be playing regular football to prepare for the winter tournament, with plenty of clubs linked with his signature.

There was even talk of a move to Championship side Cardiff City, which would have been a real step down for Bale. However, the prospect of returning home to Wales may have been enticing.

But some pundits thought he could do better. In fact, they thought St James’ Park was the best place for him.

Pundits wanted Gareth Bale to join Newcastle

TalkSPORT pundits Ally McCoist and Dean Saunders both tipped Bale to swap Madrid for Newcastle.

“If I could pick a club for him to go to now, I’d say sign for Newcastle,” Saunders said.

“They’ve got a project; they’re going in the right direction – he would slot in.”

McCoist echoed this sentiment, calling for Bale to join a Premier League club instead of going to Cardiff.

“Automatically, I just think that Newcastle would be ideal,” he said.

It feels like TalkSPORT claim everyone should join Newcastle following the takeover. But a deal for Bale wouldn’t have made sense.

Yes, he is an exceptional footballer. He’s one of the best to come out of the United Kingdom, while he proved on loan at Spurs that he can still shine in the Premier League.

But he’s not what Newcastle need at all. We aren’t looking for superstar names on crazy wages. Saunders completely contradicted himself when talking about Bale possibly joining the Magpies.

We do have a project at St James’ Park, and if he looked closely at it he would know that it doesn’t include ageing stars whose priorities lie elsewhere.

So while the TalkSPORT crew want to see Bale in black and white, he’s going stateside.

Bale agrees to join Los Angeles FC

The Champions League winner’s future was resolved at the weekend. It was confirmed that he will be joining MLS side Los Angeles FC on a one-year deal.

Bale confirmed the move via his official Twitter account, posing in his new club’s shirt.

The deal includes an option of a further 18 months. It’s an interesting move for Bale, who will soon be teammates with Italian veteran Giorgio Chiellini. He will also play alongside former Arsenal forward Carlos Vela.

His immediate future will be in LA, as he prepares for the World Cup by playing in the MLS. It’s a blow for Cardiff, who had hoped to complete a landmark deal for the ‘first class‘ forward.

As for Newcastle, a move to Tyneside was never likely, but this finally ends the needless speculation.
