Newcastle United fans covered their eyes in horror twice on Monday, as Callum Wilson and then Allan Saint-Maximin both left the pitch with injuries.
The Magpies fought tooth and nail at St. James’ Park against Manchester United, and were unlucky not to take all three points against the Red Devils.

One wonders if Eddie Howe’s side could have, had Wilson not suffered a calf injury just before half-time.
Saint-Maximin had a chance from point-blank range in the second-half that he somehow squandered.
Soon after that, Saint-Maximin himself had to depart with an injury.
Wilson and Saint-Maximin are obviously two huge players for Newcastle. Their fitness and form is going to be crucial to Newcastle’s Premier League survival bid.
So supporters have been desperate for good news about the pair after seeing both hobble off on Monday.
Well, Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope brought an update last night – and it’s a mixed bag.
He tweeted: “Hearing slightly more positive news on NUFC injuries. Wilson could be a month to six weeks out (still dependent on recovery), while Saint-Maximin calf problem is not serious at all.”
It is a big blow about Wilson, who Magpies fans know is prone to missing several games at a time through injury.
The club will undoubtedly now have to bring a new striker into the club next month.
The information on Saint-Maximin is a big relief. He also doesn’t have the best record when it comes to injuries. So the notion his issue is ‘not serious at all’ is good news indeed.
New striker inbound at St. James’ Park
The injury to Wilson will surely now mean a new out-and-out striker is coming into the club next month.
The club simply cannot wait for Wilson to recover and then rely on him. Even before his latest setback, Newcastle needed to bring someone else in.

Hopefully they have already identified somebody who can come in and make an immediate impact.
He’ll be going straight into the starting XI, so it’s important the club acquire someone who is in good goalscoring form and has decent experience under his belt.
