Liverpool vs Newcastle United is one of the most entertaining fixtures in Premier League history.

The two sides have been involved in some thrillers over the years, with the most recent meeting at St James’ Park providing six goals.

Newcastle United drew 3-3 with Liverpool, with Fabian Schar’s late equaliser handing the Magpies a deserved point. In truth, it is probably a game that Eddie Howe’s side should have won.

Now Newcastle United prepare to head to Anfield – a ground where the Magpies have a terrible record. The last time that Newcastle won a league game at Anfield was April 1994.

Liverpool have dominated this fixture, winning 4-2 in this game last season. And who could forget the 4-3 game from 1996 when Kevin Keegan slumped over the advertising hoardings?

There have been some crazy contests between Newcastle United and Liverpool, and Reds forward Cody Gakpo is hoping for another on Wednesday night.

Cody Gakpo previews Liverpool vs Newcastle United

Ahead of Wednesday night’s game at Anfield, Gakpo has spoken to Liverpool’s official website.

He wants to be involved in a ‘crazy’ game like in December, but is eager for Liverpool to pick up all three points on this occasion.

“I think the last game ended up in a crazy game,” he said.

“Hopefully it’s going to be a crazy game again but in our favour at our home.”

Cody Gakpo’s record against Newcastle United

Newcastle United were involved in a crazy game on Sunday, as they almost squandered a three-goal lead against Nottingham Forest. Fortunately, the Magpies were able to get over the line and beat Forest.

Eddie Howe will not want the same level of drama, but that will depend on how his side do defensively.

Liverpool have some incredible attackers that must be kept at bay, while Gakpo has a decent record against Newcastle United.

The Dutchman has played against Newcastle on four occasions, scoring two goals.

But the bigger threat that the Magpies must handle is Mo Salah, who has 10 goals and seven assists against Newcastle United during his Liverpool career. In his last five games against Newcastle, Salah has got 10 goal contributions.

Arne Slot has praised Newcastle’s defending, and they will need to be at their best to stop Salah and co.
