After being heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United in the summer Inter Milan are now reportedly moving to tie Nicolo Barella down to a new deal.

Before Newcastle signed Sandro Tonali from AC Milan they were rumoured to be trying to sign a different Italy international from the other side of Milan in Inter‘s Nicolo Barella.

At one point the deal looked incredibly close but then out of nowhere there was a pivot and Sandro Tonali had signed for the Magpies.

Inter are hoping Barella and Dimarco will soon sign new deals

Despite that, links with 26-year-old Barella and Newcastle still remain as do links to another Inter player, Federico Dimarco.

Now, according to journalist Rudy Galetti, Inter are moving to tie both players down to new deals by the end of the year.

Posting on X, Galetti said: “Inter are working on the contract renewals of Lautaro, Barella and DiMarco. In particular, with the LB talks are already in advanced stage. The aim of the is to reach an agreement with all 3 players by the end of the year.”

Newcastle target Barella has been shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or

Barella is also being looked at by Liverpool and Chelsea which is likely why Inter are being proactive and trying to put off any potential suitors by getting him to commit to the club.

The Italy international has recently been shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or which will no doubt have increased interest in the midfielder.

I think it’s unlikely that Newcastle would have made another attempt for Barella after landing Tonali, but despite bringing in Lewis Hall, interest could still remain for left-back Dimarco, although that could just be wishful thinking on my part.
