If there’s one thing Newcastle United need in their team right now, it’s more goals.
The Magpies have bagged just 12 goals in the Premier League this season, and with seven of those strikes coming from Callum Wilson, it’s fair to say that they need another player who can put the ball in the net.
Luckily, they have been linked with a number of strikers over the past few months, and one of the more interesting players they have reportedly looked into is Wout Weghorst.
The Dutch forward netted 16 league goals last season, leading to Newcastle showing a big interest in him in the summer, and now Wolfsburg’s Sporting Director has admitted that he will be free to go if a reasonable offer comes in.

“If there is a reasonable offer that Wout also considers interesting, then we will sit down and discuss it. That’s how we discussed it when he renewed his contract. But everyone knows that I don’t like doing transfers in winter!”
It seems as though Weghorst is available at the right price, but whether or not Newcastle are going to pay that price remains to be seen.
Unfortunately for the Magpies, they’re not the only club in for the 6 ft 6 goliath, as both Tottenham and Arsenal have been linked with a move for the forward.
Weghorst would certainly add a new dynamic to the squad, in that he’s a target man who knows how to find the back of the net, and while Andy Carroll is fantastic at winning headers, his goal record over the past few seasons leaves a lot to be desired.
If United are serious about landing Weghorst it seems as though there is a route to bringing him in, but it seemingly won’t be cheap.
