Bruno Guimaraes was seriously impressed with one Newcastle United player in their victory against Blackburn Rovers last night.

Newcastle were not at their best against the Championship side but they have one man to thank for securing their place in the FA Cup quarter final just over two weeks time.

Martin Dubravka posted on Instagram after his heroics in the penalty shootout and Bruno could not wait to send his one-word response to the shot-stopper who saved the day.

It was a tough game for the Geordies who made life a lot harder for themselves against an opposition who are currently threatened by relegation in the second division.

There was a severe lack of intensity and pressure high up the pitch, something Newcastle were so good at last season, and the result could have really gone either way with Blackburn having more efforts on target.

Dubravka pulled off a few huge saves during the 90 minutes to keep Newcastle in the game and then some spectacular ones in extra time before saving two out of Blackburn’s five penalties and winning the tie.

In their celebrations Bruno was quick to run over to the £4m signing and get the travelling Newcastle fans to show their support for the shot-stopper who had one of his best games for the Magpies.

On Instagram, Dubravka posted: “An important victory for the team and our season! Through to the next Round! Thank you for your amazing support.”

To which Bruno responded with: “Class”.

Newcastle needed a hero to dig them out last night

By Eddie Howe’s high standards it was another poor showing last night and, while they got the victory, gave fans more cause for concern heading into a big game in the Premier League at the weekend.

Since the beginning of December Newcastle have really struggled to get back to their high intensity style of play, and they can’t use the excuse of fatigue any more as they’ve been playing one game a week since the turn of the year.

Last night it again looked like it could be a disastrous game for Newcastle and they needed somebody to step up and be the hero to drag them across the line against Blackburn.

With the news coming out that the Slovakian has been dealing with a health issue recently it makes it even more impressive that he was able to impress so heavily in the tie.
