Ciaran Clark moved to Sheffield United on a season-long loan in the summer and now the 33-year-old has revealed that he’s not spoken to anyone at Newcastle since he left.

Clark is having a decent season with the Blades having made 11 appearances and scoring two goals for the promotion-chasing side.

Now, with his Newcastle contract coming to an end this summer, Clark needs to start to think about his next move as it’s unlikely that he’ll be offered a new deal on Tyneside.

Clark’s sending off against Norwich could be is defining moment

Since Clark’s last appearance for Newcastle in January 2022 the fortunes and trajectory of the club have changed massively and Clark simply doesn’t fit in any more, as harsh as that sounds. The Ireland international had some good times at Newcastle, helping the club out of the Championship. Unfortunately though, he will likely be remembered for his sending off after nine minutes against Norwich which was the catalyst for the rebirth of Joelinton.

With promotion looking likely for Sheffield United, Clark isn’t getting too carried away just yet, telling The Chronicle: “I’m not thinking about that yet. I haven’t thought about that at all. I’m just focused on training and seeing this season through and seeing what happens in the summer.”

Despite his £35k-a-week contract at Newcastle expiring in the summer, Clark hasn’t yet made any decision on where he’ll be next season, but has admitted he’d happily return to the Blades: “I haven’t spoken to anyone; literally nothing and I’m happy about that. I’m not bothered to be honest, I just want to get this season finished off and hopefully it’ll be a good one.

Clark’s future is up in the air as he’s unlikely to return to Newcastle

“I’m just concentrating on each game and that’s all I do. I’ve enjoyed my time here, I really have. It’s a good group of lads and the people are top-class.

“Everyone around the building made me feel welcome straight away so obviously I would be, but I’m going to focus on the next couple of games and training. And doing whatever I can, and we can, to see the job through.”

While it’s almost a certainty that he’ll not be returning to Newcastle, Clark isn’t guaranteed to be picked up by Sheffield United either and could find himself without a club in the summer.
