Chris Sutton believes that Ryan Fraser is someone who has really turned around his Newcastle career.

He joined Newcastle in the summer of 2020 for free. Under the Steve Bruce regime, he struggled to really find form.

However, since the arrival of his ex-Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, he seems to have a new lease on life. Howe has helped get the best out of Fraser at the Cherries and is starting to turn around his Toon career.

Sutton spoke on ‘The Monday Night Club’ on BBC 5 Live‘ on the Scot. He said: “Ryan Fraser had lost his way at Newcastle up until the last couple of games where he looks a confident player again.”

Fraser has been an underrated aspect of Newcastle’s resurgance in form

In their last five games, the Magpies are undefeated. They’ve won the last three against Aston Villa, Everton and Leeds. The likes of Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn and Allan Saint-Maximin have grabbed the headlines.

But Fraser has improved his game in the last couple of months. Since Howe arrived he seems to have more of a spring in his step and presses with much more intensity.

Furthermore, he was able to score his first league goal for Newcastle in the 3-1 victory against Everton. This was a very significant moment for the winger, symbolising his upturn in fortunes.

For the last few seasons, the Magpies have seemed to be lacking a right winger. Saint-Maximin often occupies the left side but there was no one who grasped that spot with both hands.

However, Fraser is now starting to do just that. He’s proving why he should start in that position, and the 27-year-old is now the best option Newcastle have.

It’s great to see Fraser get some praise. He’s been an unsung hero for the Toon during their resurgence. One benefit is certainly being reunited with old boss Howe. The whole squad looks rejuvenated and it shows on the pitch.
