If Celtic have their way, Eddie Howe won’t be the next manager of Newcastle United.

The former Bournemouth boss has been out of work since leaving the Cherries last summer following relegation.

But with pressure mounting on Steve Bruce in recent weeks, there has been talk about him returning to football with Newcastle United.

The Chronicle reported recently that Howe would be open to a move to St James’ Park, while the Sun claimed back in January that the Magpies could turn to him if they sacked Bruce.

But as it stands, Howe’s return to football could come north of the border.

Howe heading to Celtic?

While Newcastle have stuck by Bruce, Celtic took the plunge in February and parted ways with Neil Lennon.

They are yet to appoint a replacement, but there has reportedly been movement in their pursuit of a new boss.

According to Sky Sports, Celtic have contacted Howe about heading to Parkhead. Meanwhile, the BBC report that talks between the two parties are at an advanced stage.

This would be a huge appointment for the Hoops, who recently suffered heartache as Rangers were confirmed as champions.

But Celtic’s gain would be Newcastle’s loss.

Howe is the kind of manager Toon fans want. He has a clear philosophy and wants to play attacking football.

But it looks like it will be Celtic who benefit from Howe’s philosophy, while the Toon Army will have to pray that Bruce can do enough to keep Newcastle up.
