It appears that Brendan Rodgers is no longer in the running to replace Steve Bruce as Newcastle United manager.
The Northern Irishman has been linked with the job ever since the Saudi-backed consortium bought the club last week.
It was even claimed yesterday that Rodgers was in pole position to get the Magpies job, despite his £16million release clause.
That is certainly a blow for Newcastle, but not massively surprising.
Despite our incredible wealth, attracting a big name to the club will still take time. Even Rodgers felt like a bit of a stretch. The fact he is already in a job made things even more difficult.
The 48-year-old would have been a wonderful appointment. He’s proven at Leicester that he can build a team full of exciting young players that play attractive football.
It looks like he’ll be staying at the King Power Stadium, but Celtic fans aren’t so sure.
The Hoops were previously managed Rodgers, but he decided to walk away and take the Foxes job in 2019.
On February 24th 2019, his colleague John Kennedy stated that Rodgers was going nowhere. Two days later and he was posing with a Leicester jersey.
That hurt Celtic fans, who felt let down by Rodgers. It tarnished his reputation north of the border, despite an incredible tenure at Parkhead.
Hoops fans have reacted to the latest news about their former manager, and don’t think Newcastle fans should truly believe he’s out of the running.
