Recently Newcastle United were linked with another raid on Southampton for Argentine midfielder Carlos Alcaraz.
It was believed Newcastle were keen on Carlos Alcaraz in the summer and still retain an interest in the 20-year-old.
Alcaraz isn’t having the best of times under new Southampton boss Russell Martin and it’s believed that he’s had his head turned by the reports of interest from Newcastle.
Carlton Palmer is clearly big fan of Carlos Alcaraz
If that is the case, then lowering your performances, or falling out with the manager is hardly the way to endear yourself to Eddie Howe … although I suppose it worked for Anthony Gordon.
Former Southampton and England player Carlton Palmer is a huge admirer of Alcaraz and spoke to Football League World about the potential Newcastle interest.

“Newcastle United have made an enquiry about Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz in the summer transfer window and have continued to keep tabs on the player,” said Palmer.
“(Eddie) Howe is keen to add to his squad in the January transfer window as they’re in four competitions and there’s a lot of games ahead of them.
“Alcaraz could leave Southampton in the January transfer window – certainly in the summer – if Southampton are not promoted and he’s not getting game time.
Alcaraz needs to prove he is ready for a move to Newacstle
“Alcaraz scored four goals in 18 Premier League games last season after his £12m move from Racing Club, he’s certainly an exciting young talent and he’s got a lot of praise from former-managers, one being Harry Redknapp – who knows a player or two – who said ‘he’s got a really bright future ahead of him'”.

In seven appearances this season Alcaraz has managed to find the net once in the Carabao Cup tie which the Saints lost 3-1 away to Gillingham.
Should Newcastle’s interest be genuine, I go back to my point before about how falling out with the manager is never a good look. Hopefully the two can work through their differences and Alcaraz can go about proving he is worthy of the move.
