Newcastle United’s Matt Ritchie is an angry man.
The Scotland international has always been aggressive, which is part of the reason he is adored at St James’ Park.
However, his irate attitude has drawn comparisons to celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
Ramsay is famous for his no-nonsense approach on television, with every second word often being bleeped out.
As for Ritchie, he’s always giving teammates and even referees a verbal lashing.
But is the Magpies star just a mini Gordon Ramsay?
In an interview on Sky Sports Football’s YouTube channel, Callum Wilson and Joe Willock were asked if they think their teammate looks like the famous chef.
“I actually call him that sometimes,” Wilson said.
“We was at Bournemouth together and we used to say he’s like an angry Gordon Ramsay.
“I think his mannerisms and the way he carries himself as well, always barking at other people and stuff on the training field.”
Ramsay is no match for raging Ritchie
Corner flags, Matty Longstaff, Steve Bruce – no one is safe from Ritchie’s wrath.
But it is the 31-year-old’s aggression that makes him who he is. If it wasn’t for his anger, he wouldn’t be the same player.
Ritchie has played a pivotal role in Newcastle’s survival this season.
He returned to the starting XI for the draw against Tottenham, kicking off a run that saved us from relegation.
Ritchie’s hunger and desire lifted the players around him. It’s always been that way ever since he joined the club in 2016.
There are more talented players than Ritchie out there. But when it comes to sheer desire and a never-say-die attitude, there aren’t many better than the ‘angry wee bastard’.
