Callum Wilson shares what he now wants to achieve while at Newcastle United

Callum Wilson has revealed what he would most like to achieve during his time at Newcastle United.

Wilson has been a top striker since he joined in 2020 and his personal goal has always been to try and reach 100 Premier League goals, which he is edging ever closer to.

In an interview on NUFCTV before the AC Milan game, Wilson has claimed that he also hopes to become Newcastle’s second-top scorer of the Premier League era while still at the club.

Wilson was probably one of the best transfers under the previous regime, signing from Bournemouth for £20m and is still leading the line today with the club in the Champions League and battling for trophies.

Though he’s had his fitness issues, Wilson is one of the most reliable and determined scorers in the Premier League and is always going to give you absolutely everything out on the pitch.

For the last three seasons, the England international has been climbing his way up the table of Newcastle’s top Premier League scorers, netting 45 times in 97 games and overtaking the likes of Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand and Shola Ameobi.

All eyes are now on getting another three goals to take him ahead of Peter Beardsley, but Wilson is slightly more doubtful about taking Alan Shearer’s top scoring title.

In his interview, Wilson said: “Yeah, for me as a striker every time you step on the field you want to score a goal.

“Whilst I’m at the club there’s the second place to try and achieve. Big Al’s out in front so unless I’m here for the next five or ten years I doubt I’ll catch him.

“But it’s nice to try and write your name in the history books of such a fantastic football club.”

Injuries have prevented Wilson from reaching the very top

Historically, Wilson has suffered with injury problems throughout his career and it remains an issue to this day with the striker only just returning this weekend after a few weeks out of the team.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a relatively injury-free season last year, however, and it showed just how effective he can be when available, scoring 18 goals in the Premier League, his personal record.

Though he’s coming towards the twilight of his career, Wilson is determined as ever and is very much looking forward to tonight’s Champions League battle against AC Milan at St James’ Park having been injured for the incredible game against PSG.
