Callum Wilson has sent a message to Newcastle United supporters after what was an incredible year for the football club.
2023 was the year in which Newcastle made returns to Wembley in the Carabao Cup final and to the Champions League after two decades out of the competition, and it will go down as a very special period in the club’s history.
Wilson took to Instagram to thank the fans for their support over the last 12 months and claimed that this team can go on to achieve even greater things in 2024, even despite their slow start to the year.
Wilson says this is a ‘special’ Newcastle team
Newcastle were nothing short of remarkable in 2023 and outperformed everybody’s expectations, even the most optimistic of supporters couldn’t have predicted the team to finish in the top four.
Eddie Howe achieved things that didn’t even seem possible prior to the takeover, and even then to qualify for Europe’s elite tournament was part of a five-year plan, not 18 months.
Of course, the year has also had its negatives having been subsequently knocked out of the European tournament altogether and missing out on a second consecutive semi-final.
But as a whole there can’t be too many frustrations as a fanbase given the position that the club were in only two years ago when they were still looking for their first Premier League win and relegation was a matter of when rather than if.
On Instagram, Wilson said: “Looking back at 2023, another year full of many highs and some lows, but plenty to be proud of as a club! This is a special team, which has so much more to push on & achieve!
“Massive thank you for all the support home & away last year.”

Wilson promises 2024 will be even greater
Having gotten off to slow start to the new year after a 4-2 defeat to Liverpool which confirmed Newcastle’s seventh defeat in their last eight games, the team could really do with some positive thoughts.
Wilson did not play a part in the game and has been ruled as a doubt for the rest of January through injury which is a huge blow, but the striker is still confident about his side’s chances.
If the team can get back on track with a few good results in the next couple of months then there’s no reason to think they can’t get back into Europe with a strong push to end this year’s campaign.
The club are also looking to bring in a few players this month to help out with squad depth, but it’s the summer which Newcastle fans will be looking forward to the most as they look to really push on and try to recruit some top class players for next season.
