Callum Wilson and the rest of the Newcastle United team discover their Champions League opponents today.
The draw for Europe’s elite competition takes place at 5pm BST on Thursday evening, with the Magpies set to come up against some of the best teams on the continent. There is even a situation where they could be drawn against Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and AC Milan.
That would be the hardest group possible for Newcastle, but Eddie Howe’s side will be excited to welcome whatever challenges come their way. They worked so hard to qualify for the Champions League, and are now going to reap the rewards.
No matter who the Magpies are drawn against, it will be tough. Newcastle are in pot four, meaning they are part of the lowest ranked teams in the competition.
That means there will definitely be a couple of glamour ties coming to St James’ Park later this year, and Wilson has given his view on a few teams he would love to face in the Champions League group stage.

Wilson has spoke on the latest episode of the Footballer’s Football Podcast, and was asked who he wants Newcastle to be drawn against in the Champions League on Thursday evening.
“There’s no team that you don’t want or do want, the Champions League is the Champions League,” he said.
“It’s a competition for some of the best teams in the world. So I feel that whoever you get is going to be a challenge and a test and one that you’ve got to rise up to if you want to progress in the competition.
“Don’t get me wrong, the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich – they’re all top teams who you’d actually want to play against and see how you fare up. Also play in their stadiums.
“I’m looking forward to the draw, excited like everyone else is.”
Newcastle braced for the big boys
With some huge teams in pots one and two, Newcastle could be drawn against a couple of giants in the group stage. There is even the possibility that Wilson’s dream could come true, as Bayern and Real Madrid are in pot one and pot two respectively.
It will be really exciting to see teams like that come to St James’ Park, but, as Wilson says, it will be fantastic to travel to their grounds too. It is an opportunity for Wilson and co to compete inside some of the most famous stadiums in Europe, while the Toon Army will be relishing the away days. You just know fans will be making plans and booking flights as soon as the draw is completed.
Wilson is ready to welcome all challengers to St James’ Park, but he would love it if Newcastle get the chance to face at least one of Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern. Bring them on!
