Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has issued a ‘get well soon’ message to Kyle Walker after the right-back’s injury blow.
The Manchester City defender is set for a spell on the sidelines, suffering a groin injury in the Manchester Derby. He limped off in the first half, as Pep Guardiola’s side went on to win 6-3 at the Etihad.
The 32-year-old has now underwent surgery, and faces a race against time to be fit for the World Cup in Qatar. That is a blow for England boss Gareth Southgate, who may not be able to call upon the man with 70 caps for his country.
After his operation, Walker took to Instagram confirm that it was a success and thank fans and fellow players for their support.
He wrote: “As players we have to appreciate injuries are part and parcel of the game we love. My operation on Tuesday was a success and now I can concentrate on my rehab and getting back to full fitness. I will be supporting my team mates every day in any way I can. Once again thankyou for all your kind messages.”
Walker received a plethora of replies, ranging from Man City teammates Ruben Dias and Riyad Mahrez to Newcastle transfer target James Maddison.
He also received a message from Toon striker Wilson. He wrote in the comments: “Get well soon bro.”
Walker will be eager to do just that. If not, it could have an impact on one of Wilson’s teammates at Newcastle.
Kyle Walker injury will have impact on Kieran Trippier’s World Cup
Walker will hope to return quickly, but could now miss out on what is likely his last chance to play at a World Cup.
While his injury is a blow for England, it should increase the likelihood of Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier being in the 26-man squad.

They both play in the same position, whilst also have competition from Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, Southgate has often opted to go for the experienced option, especially in tournaments.
Trippier has always been a reliable player for England, and started the 2018 World Cup semi-final and the 2020 Euros final. He had an impact in both, scoring and providing an assist.
We have seen at Newcastle how important the 32-year-old’s experience is. He has raised standards and is a leader.
He will be doing that for his country in the winter, and could have an even more important role if Walker misses out. That will put Trippier under pressure, but he will almost certainly rise to it.
